As most of you know, I love to support Canadian brands. I try a lot of different stuff & even though I like Canadian brands, if it just doesn’t work for me I gotta be honest. My skin is sensitive. I used to have eczema as a teen. Eventually I grew out of that as the foods I started eating got more healthy & I greened my personal care products. I haven’t had any allergic reactions for more than 20 years. So I was really dismayed when I started getting an allergic reaction to this conditioner.
Btw, my mother also got an allergic reaction (same brand but different products: the Real Moisture Conditioner & Shampoo). Both of us had the following symptoms: Ears became very red, swollen & itchy. This progressed to our scalp, neck then the rest of our bodies. My mom’s face actually swelled up so bad one day that I urged her to go to the hospital. I literally couldn’t recognize her, she was that swollen. I’m glad she took my advice & went to the hospital. They gave her Prednisone to take on a tapering basis. Then since her swelling went down, sent her home.
Both of us had multiple visits to our doctors (we see different doctors). My doctor prescribed Keflex for me as she didn’t like the side effects of Prednisone. My reaction got worse so my doc sent me to a dermatologist for examination. The dermatologist prescribed creams for me & Hydroxyzine. If you want to see what it looked like, my skin looked like these pictures of seborrhoeic dermatitis.
I didn’t like having all these chemicals in my body. So I researched natural remedies that would help. What I found worked the best for me was Primavera’s Calendula Oil (review to be posted next week) & also spraying the affected areas with a special disinfectant I made up (distilled, filtered water with tea tree essential oil, lavender essential oil, & rosemary essential oil).
Anyway, to make a long story short, my symptoms started on Feb 1st. I still have some patchy spots on my neck but they’re finally going away. What’s really weird is I checked the ingredients list for both products thoroughly & there is nothing over a 2 toxicity rating from EWG’s Skin Deep Database. So I’m going to chalk it up to bad luck that I got an allergic reaction. I’ve a sneaking suspicion its the Hydrolized Wheat Protein & the Arginine that my mother & I became allergic to. I haven’t seen those ingredients in any other products I’ve safely used. Needless to say, I won’t be repurchasing this product again.
Sorry for the long post peeps! I just thought my experience with an allergic reaction & what natural remedies to use might help someone out there.
