I finally have the time to write a review about the mattress that hubby & I bought back in March. If you’ve read my previous post about the organic cotton bed sheets we bought for the bed you’ll know that regular beds have issues with off-gassing. I don’t want to scare anyone, but it’s just amazing the things you learn sometimes when you dig deeper. I used to sleep on a conventional mattress & always wondered why I would get headaches that felt like someone hit my head with an axe. I was also never the kind of person who liked the “newness” smell in cars, mattresses, carpets, anything. That newness smell is chemical y’all. If you want to learn more about offgassing & flame retardants scroll to the end of the post for further reading.
Let’s talk about the specs for the mattress. The Natura Skye Firm Top Mattress is not organic. But they do not use flame retardants. Due to the use of all natural wool & cotton they are able to get away with not using flame retardant chemicals in any of their mattress lines. The Skye Mattress core is made of: a 6” foam base (12% soy foam) & 3” Talalay latex (30% natural & 70% synthetic). Hubby & I have been sleeping on this mattress for a while now. It’s a bit firmer than what I’m used to but I think it will last us a long time. My previous mattress when I was single was also a Natura mattress & it’s still going strong 5 years later. We bought this mattress at Mattress Mall at Yonge & Lawrence. They were really great with us & delivered the week after we purchased it.
