Sudsatorium, Living in the Momint – Review to come

I’ve tried a number of Sudsatorium’s conditioners before and I can’t decide which ones I like the best. Each conditioner has its special qualities. I like Living in the Momint for its soothing scalp properties and it really helps keep my hair manageable, soft and shiny.

Cost: $11.95 CAD, 150 ml / 4.2 oz
Available at: Natural CodeEtsy

Intelligent Nutrients, Styling Gel – Review to come

This styling gel has some impressive certifications! It’s certified organic, leaping bunny, and green e org certified (renewable energy). The gel has a very mild, almost spearmint-like smell to it. The hold is medium to firm. A little bit goes a long way so if you like a light hold, use this sparingly. I did like this gel but it’s a bit pricey so I’m going to keep looking for another styling gel.

Cost: $38.99 CAD, 200 ml / 7 oz
Available at: Thair, Intelligent Nutrients Canada

Intelligent Nutrients, Curly Hair Serum – Review to come

This curly hair serum keeps the frizzies at bay. But I found the hold too firm for me. I couldn’t get the right amount in my hair. I was either putting too much or too little. So I’ve started adding this to my leave-in to dilute it enough so that my hair doesn’t get frizzy but also isn’t too crunchy. Like their styling gel I find this a bit pricey so I’m unsure if I will repurchase this. Will have to do some more experimentation with this product.

Cost: $35.99 CAD, 140 ml / 5 oz
Available at: Thair, Intelligent Nutrients Canada
Brand Origin: USA

Parkdale Butter, Espresso Face BalmReview

This is a lovely face balm which I used over the summer. It’s a bit heavy for summertime use though its very hydrating and I love the smell of espresso. I enjoy Silkka Garden Apothecary’s Mint + Grapefruit Balm more so I won’t be repurchasing the Parkdale Butter Balm.

Cost: $24.99 CAD, 120 ml / 4 oz (also available in 60 ml size $14.99 CAD)
Available at: Parkdale ButterList of stockists
Brand Origin: Canada
Rating: 4/5

S W Basics, Cocoa Lip Balm – No review

This is a decent lip balm which kept my lips nicely hydrated. It’s slightly melty and soft so sometimes I would use a bit more than I intended. But all in all it’s a good lip balm.

Cost: $5.00 CAD, 4.5 g / 0.15 oz
Available at: Natural Code,
Brand Origin: USA

Flowers to Fragrance, Lavender and Geranium Cleansing LotionReview

This cleanser is a pleasure to use. It’s texture is creamy and the smell of the lavender and geranium is so soothing. It feels like a luxurious treat at the end of a long work day. I love that Flowers to Fragance is a family run business from rural Ontario. I love to shop local whenever I can, especially when the products are this great!

Cost: $19.99 CAD, 250 ml / 1 oz

Flowers to Fragrance, Deodorant Spray in Citrus Lavender  – Review

Unfortunately this deodorant spray didn’t work too well for me once the weather warmed up significantly. It worked fine for me in the cooler weather but also didn’t last all day long. I’m also detoxing at the moment so maybe that has to factored in as well. Anyway I may not repurchase this since it didn’t work well for me.

Cost: $11.99 CAD, 250 ml / 1 oz

Lotus Wei, Joy Juice Mist and Inspired Action MistReview

I’ve loved Lotus Wei’s aromatherapy for quite a while now. I’ve tried other aromatherapy brands but I always seem to come back to Lotus Wei. There’s something very special about the vibrational and energetic qualities of Lotus Wei’s aromatherapy.  Besides the mists I’ve also reviewed their elixirs, serums and perfumes. I have no doubt I will be repurchasing again after I’ve finished off some the other aromatherapy I have in my stash.

Marie Veronique Advanced, Serum Du Jour (sample) – Review

I finally finished my sample sized bottle of Serum Du Jour. I’m actually surprised how long it lasted. A small amount really goes a long way and helps to offset the price of the full sized bottle. Those on a budget should keep in mind that sometimes you get what you pay for. So pick and choose which items you want to splurge on. This serum is totally worth the price. I will repurchase this serum once I finish off some other serums I have in my cabinet. This sample was provided for review but all opinions expressed are my own.

Cost: Full Size, $90.00 USD, 30 ml / 1 oz

Marie Veronique Advanced, Eye Recovery Serum (sample) – Review

This was another sample provided for review but wow this one really blew my socks off. I can’t tell you how many under eye creams I’ve tried that did nothing at all for my dark circles. This product combined with the lightening serum proved to be a great duo for me. My under eye circles are almost gone. I’ve run out of the sample sized bottle that I was sent and now I’m planning on buying the full sized bottle soon.

Cost: Full Size, $75.00 USD, 15 ml / 0.5 oz
Available at: Marie Veronique, Lilou Organics
Rating: 5/5

Marie Veronique Advanced, Luminous Lightening Serum (sample) – Review

I love, love, love this lightening serum. It worked so well for me that my hyperpigmentation spots are almost gone. I’ve already repurchased a full sized bottle of this serum after having finished the sample size they sent me for consideration.

Cost: Full Size, $110.00 USD, 30 ml / 1 oz

Herbaceutikals, Smooth On Lip BalmReview

This is a nice lip balm. I really love the simple ingredients list and knowing that all the ingredients are safe. I have so many lip balms at this point however that I may not be repurchasing for quite some time. But I do love the farm to product ethics of this brand.

Cost: $4.00 USD, 4 g / 0.15 oz

Sudsatorium, Luscious Clay Soap – No Review

One of my favourite local brands, Sudsatorium sells on etsy and is also available now at many stores within Toronto. The luscious clay soap was the first soap of theirs that I have tried. Though I’m a big lover of their conditioners, shampoo and lotions. Now I can say that I love their soaps as well. Besides making me smell heavenly, I loved the slightly gritty texture of the soap which was great for exfoliating. Plus the rhassoul and kaolin clay are amazing at keeping the skin detoxified and purified. This is one soap I’m definitely going to repurchase and if I really like you I’ll give it to you as a gift as well!

Birthday Wishlist + 15% Discount code from White Apothecary!

Hello lovely readers, May is my birthday month. Since birthdays are all about celebration you know I will be treating myself to some green beauty goodies from my favourite retailers. Here are three things I have my eye on at White Apothecary.

1. Ollie Natural, Face Serum Anti-Aging 40’s-50’s

I’ll be turning 41 soon so it’s important for me to take care of my skin. A good face serum can make a difference in your skin’s hydration and I love trying new serums. Ollie Natural’s serum caught my eye because of the raspberry seed oil which has a natural SPF of 30. Plus the grapeseed oil, and pomegranate oil are nourishing to the skin and high in anti-oxidants, everything that your skin loves.

Cost: $65.00 CAD, 15 ml / 0.5 fl oz

2. Scotch Naturals, Fortifying Base Coat

Help! My nails need a wake up call that spring has finally arrived! A little TLC is needed to revive them and Scotch Naturals looks like it might do the trick. I haven’t tried this brand yet so this will be a brand new eco adventure for me!

Cost: $16.00 CAD, 10.5 ml / 0.4 oz

3. Lippy Girl, Organic Lip Conditioner

Gotta love a vegan lip conditioner made locally (at least for me) in Canada. I’ve tried Lippy Girl before. You can read my reviews about their foundation and lip stick. They also made it to my list for  Top 2014 Best Products.

Cost: $8.00 CAD 4.25 g / 0.14 oz

Herbaceutikals Decongestion, Lip Balm and Body Butter

My thanks to the lovely Vibe Veda of Vibe’s Beauty and Jenevieve of Herbaceutikals for sending me these products.

Decongestion Vapour Rub

Ingredients: Cloves and cinnamon infused grapeseed oil blended with coconut oil, beeswax and essential oils (rosemary, lavender, eucalyptus and mints). 100% organic

Thank goodness I received this in the winter time. Herbaceutikals Decongestion Vapour Rub has been a godsend. I had a stuffed up nose a couple of times and putting this rub on my nose helped me to get over my cold much quicker than normal. This might be TMI (too much information), but putting the rub on my nose would make it run. Having a running nose would then prompt me to blow my nose. In this way the congestion and phlegm got expelled from my system much quicker than if I didn’t have this rub. Cloves, cinnamon and eucalyptus help to open the nasal passages, while grapeseed oil, coconut oil and beeswax nourish my skin and keep it moist. I didn’t get tissue paper burn from blowing my nose so often thanks to this rub. This rub can also be used for lung congestion by rubbing this into your back. I love love love this rub! It’s a great general purpose product to have around all the time. I think I will add this to my All Natural First Aid Kit! I would definitely repurchase this.

Cost: $14.00 USD, 28 g / 1 oz OR $18.95 CAD, 57 g / 2 oz

Smooth On Lip Balm

Ingredients: Calendula, comfrey, lavender, plantain, yarrow, extra virgin olive oil, virgin coconut oil, beeswax, and essential oils (a blend of mints). 100% organic

This balm is appropriately named. Smooth On promotes nice, smooth lips. I must have the Sahara Desert of lips because when I would use this balm my lips would absorb it completely and I would reapply all the time. After a week of doing this my lips finally reached their optimal hydration point and now I only have to reapply after I’ve eaten.  I love the simple and pure ingredients of this lip balm. There are some stellar ingredients in this balm. Calendula, comfrey, lavender, yarrow and plantain are anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and promote healing of the skin. Then we have the skin moisturizers: olive oil, coconut oil and beeswax which help to keep the skin hydrated. The price is really reasonable as well. My only teensy weensy complaint is that the balm is quite soft. I’m not sure how this balm would fare living in my purse during the summer time. Will it melt? I’ll have to repurchase this balm in the future to find out!

Cost: $4.00 USD, 4 g / 0.15 oz

Body Butter

Ingredients: Shea butter, coconut oil, calendula infused extra virgin olive oil and a mild blend of essential oils (ginger and a blend of mints). 100% organic

What a lovely body butter! In the jar it looks grainy but melts immediately on contact with skin. This balm has no strong scents. I couldn’t smell much of anything besides the olive oil and shea butter smell. I wish I had a larger jar because this 4 oz one went pretty quickly. My skin soaked up this butter quickly and thoroughly. Calendula calms inflamed or irritated skin, and shea butter, coconut oil and olive oil are wonderful skin moisturizers.

Cost: $16.00 USD, 113 g / 4 oz

Laidbare, From Dusk Till Dawn Vitamin C SerumReview

I’m currently undecided if I want to repurchase this serum. It seemed to work well on my under eye circles but didn’t do much for my skin tone.

100% Pure, Candy BlushReview

This was a decent blush. But it’s certainly not very travel-friendly. One accidental drop and it shattered to pieces. I had to use it as a loose blush because of that. I love the colour but I’m not sure if I would repurchase this again.

Lily Lolo, Concealer (Samples) – No Review

My first time trying out the brand Lily Lolo came courtesy of Katie Vibes when she gave me the Lily Lolo Loose Powder Eyeshadow in Moonlight for the Green Beauty Swap. I really liked the eyeshadow, so I thought I would try more of Lily Lolo’s products. When Naturalla Beauty had a discount code on her blog, I happily bought some samples of the concealer from the Lily Lolo USA website. It looks like the concealer sample pack is no longer available on the Lily Lolo USA website which is a pity. For things like concealer and foundation I find it helpful to try the sample sizes before buying the full sized product. I bought the colours Nude and Caramel. Nude is about three shades too pale for me but works well for concealing my under eye circles. Caramel is also too light for my skin tone but is much closer to it. Now if they had another concealer a shade darker it would be a perfect match for me! I have already bought the full sized concealer in Caramel from White Apothecary.

Haut Cosmetics, Purifying Primer Review

This is still one of my favourite primers. I also like to use it in the evening as a kind of treatment cream when I’m breaking out. It helps keep my skin clear without having to use too much spot treatment. With my acne, I find a multi-pronged approach works well.

Cost: $ 59.00 CAD, 250 ml / 1 oz
Available at: Haut Cosmetics, Beauteabar

Hurraw, Lip Balm in Vanilla BeanReview

My original review was for the grapefruit flavour so I decided to try a new flavour this time around. Hurraw doesn’t disappoint. My lips were still beautifully hydrated all day long with the Vanilla Bean flavour. I would definitely repurchase this balm.

Cost: $3.79 CAD
Available at: HurrawThe Big Carrot, Noah’s Natural Foods.

Crawford Street, Tangerine Lip BalmReview

Another nice lip balm. This one was living in my purse for the longest time. Since this balm is more solid than others I’ve tried, it lasted longer and also doubled as face balm in a pinch. There isn’t much tangerine flavour to it but that’s okay. You don’t always want to taste your lip balm when you’re eating food. I would repurchase this in the future.

Penny Lane Organics Lip Balm, Mango Flavour
Read full review here. I finally finished off this lip balm. I have to say, the taste of this lip balm is so yummy though I know it’s not for eating. LOL. It also did a great job of keeping my lips perfectly hydrated. I would repurchase this after I’ve gone through my lip balm stash.

Lavina Skincare, Barbary Fig Seed Oil **PR Sample

Battys Bath, Conditioner in Happiness
Full review to come. While I really liked what the conditioner did to my hair I wasn’t so enamoured of the scent. Spearmint is associated in my mind with toothpaste. So yeah, I kinda felt like my hair smelled like toothpaste when I used this conditioner. I think next time I repurchase this I’ll get either the unscented or try the coconut cream or buttercream icing scents. Knocking it down a point in ratings due to that.

Osmia Organics, Spot Treatment
See full review here. This spot treatment really works. I’ve repurchased it before. It was a lifesaver for me with my acne prone skin. But now I’ve found a DIY recipe for a blemish treatment that I can make easily & for a lower cost. So I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing this.

Weleda Calendula Ointment

Ingredients:  Calendula Officinalis, Beeswax, Lanolin, Lanolin Alcohols, Sesame Oil, Water.

No review. I was pretty underwhelmed with this ointment. It’s a thick, yellowish colour that goes on easily.  But I can really smell the lanolin in this ointment & that puts me off liking it. Also it didn’t do anything beneficial to my skin other than hydrating it. I won’t be repurchasing this ointment.

Product Review: @PennyLaneOrg Lip Balm in Mango

Ingredients list: Coconut oil (Cicis Nucifera), Castor Seed oil (Ricinus communis), Cocoa (Theobroma Cacao) Butter, Shea Butter (Butyrospermum Parkii), Almond (Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis) Oil, Beeswax (Cera Alba), Calendula (Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract) Oil, Vitamin E (Tocopherol), Natural Mango Flavour.

A little bit about Penny Lane first. It was founded by two Canadian sisters from Beaver Valley. Here’s an excerpt from their About Us page:

“We are located in the beautiful Beaver Valley on 3 acres with gardens, a fruit orchard and spring fed streams running through the property. We decided to go “back to the basics” in our vegetarian and sustainable lifestyle, to grow our own food and make everything we can ourselves. So we started making personal care products for our family members and then offered them to others who wanted all natural vegan or vegetarian and toxin free products for themselves and their loved ones.”

After the lip balm I’d bought wasn’t cutting it, I knew I had to find a replacement lickity split. At the time I was already making an order with Penny Lane Organics for a few other things (veg glycerin & hemp oil) so I decided to try their lip balm as well.

I’m so glad that I did because this lip balm was da bomb! I loved the mango flavour & it did a great job of keeping my lips hydrated. Repurchase? Yes I will, once I’ve gone through the stash of other lip balms I’ve bought to try.

Note: the natural mango flavour comes from a manufacturer in the USA & is the same kind used in naturally flavoured ice cream & yogurt.
