Lalun Naturals, Autumn Gold Cleanser, Toner and Moisturizer

Lalun Naturals Autumn Gold

Autumn Gold Cleanser

Ingredients: *Calendula infused Carthamus tinctorius (Safflower) Oil, Persea americana (Avocado) Oil, **Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) Oil, Vitamin E, Rosemarinus officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, *Matricaria recutita (German Chamomile) Oil, *Anthemis nobilis (Roman Chamomile) Oil, *Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender) Oil. **Certified Organic Ingredients, *Organic or wildcrafted.

Firstly I have to save I love the smell of this cleanser. It has some of my favourite oils in it. As a cleanser it was a bit too heavy for my combination acne prone skin. But I loved using it as an after shower moisturizer/body oil. As for ingredients I like how simple and pure the ingredients list is. There are plenty of skin loving oils such as safflower oil, avocado oil and jojoba oil.  Most people know that Jojoba oil is most similar to our skin’s own sebum production. Avocado oil is rich in fatty acids as well as anti-oxidants Vitamin A,B,D and E. Safflower oil is a natural anti-inflammatory and rich in linoleic acid. Chamomile and lavender are known for being calming and gentle to the skin. Both Rosemary and lavender are also known for its antiseptic and antimicrobial properties which helps heal skin prone to acne.

Cost: $18.00 USD, 114 g / 4 oz

Autumn Gold Toner

Ingredients: Anthemis nobilis (Roman Chamomile) Water, **Aloe barbadensis Leaf (Aloe) Juice, Vegetable Glycerine, Colloidal Gold, *Self Heal (Prunella vulgaris) Flower Essence. **Certified Organic, *Organic or wildcrafted.

Maggie has created a lovely, gentle toner perfect for transitioning into the colder weather of autumn. I don’t know about you but when summer starts slipping into autumn my skin takes a hit. It seems that almost suddenly I get crocodile skin that is thirsty for moisture. This toner was a great help for rehydrating my skin and perfect for use before applying serums. Chamomile is calming and aloe juice packs some hydrating power while the colloidal gold helps stimulate cell turn over. If you’ve got thirsty skin like me, this would be a great toner for you to add to your skin care regimen.

Cost: $18.00 USD, 114 g / 4 oz

Autumn Gold Moisturizer

Ingredients: Matricaria recutita (Chamomile) Water, **Aloe barbadensis (Aloe) Leaf Juice, **Elaeis guineensis (Palm) Butter, *Calendula officinalis (Calendula) extract, **Punica granatum (Pomegranate) Seed Oil, Colloidal Gold, *Euphorbia cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Glycerin, *Curcuma longa (Turmeric) Root Extract,**Elaeis guineensis (Palm) Fruit Oil, **Lecithin GMO free, Ricinis communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Allantoin, Citrus aurantium sinensis (Orange) Fiber, Tocopherol (Vitamin E) GMO Soy free, Gluconolactone (and) Sodium Benzoate, Xanthan Gum, **Curcuma Xanthorrhiza (Turmeric) Root Extract, **Achillea Millefolium (Yarrow) Oil, **Helichrysum italicum (Helichrysum) Oil, **Matricaria recutita (Chamomile) Oil, **Anthemis nobilis (Roman Chamomile) Oil, Daucus carota (Carrot) Seed Oil. **Certified Organic, *Organic or wildcrafted.

Another winner, this moisturizer was gentle enough for me to use while I was having an allergic reaction to another product I tried. It’s no wonder because of the calming (chamomile, calendula, helichrysum), hydrating (aloe leaf juice, candelilla), and anti-inflammatory (yarrow) ingredients in this moisturizer. Pomegranate and carrot seed oil gives us an anti-oxidant hit with turmeric providing more anti-inflammatory and skin healing properties. This is an impressive moisturizer for all of its wonderful ingredients. A small spatula is provided with it as the oils sometimes separate. But give it a little stir and apply and it provides a great moisturizing barrier to the external environment. You’re going to want to stock up on this moisturizer!

Cost: $34.00 USD, 30 ml / 1 oz
Available at: Lalun Naturals
Brand Origin: USA
Rating: 5/5

Overall I would say that Maggie, the creator and founder of Lalun Naturals has come up with a winning trio of products that are great to use when the colder weather starts arriving. Things that I love about these products: simple yet pure ingredients, every ingredient has its purpose, and affordability. Maggie shows us that you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg when it comes to getting good quality skincare products which are also natural, organic and eco-friendly.

September/October: Empties

My empties are quite late this month. But at long last here they are!

Lily of the Desert, Aloe Vera Juice Inner Fillet – No review

Aloe vera is very soothing for the skin and hair. Some people also like to drink it. I prefer to use it externally. I’m currently using this in a hair rinse and in my leave-in conditioner. This aloe vera has a few additives like citric acid and potassium sorbate which rate as a 2 and 3 on EWG’s Skin Deep.

Cost: $29.99 CAD, 3.8 L / 128 oz
Available at: Ambrosia Natural Foods, Well.ca, Healthy Planet
Brand Origin: USA

Thayer’s Original Witch Hazel with Aloe VeraReview

Well there isn’t much I can say about this item that I haven’t said before. Witch Hazel is a staple in my medicine cabinet for its versatility. I use it as a toner and I also use it to make my own perfume. I’ve already repurchased this!

Cost: $12.99 CAD, 355 ml / 12 oz
Available at: Well.ca, Big CarrotNoah’s Natural Foods

Silkka Garden Apothecary, Blossom Hydration Mist – Review

This has become one of my favourite mists. I love multi-function products. I use this as a toner when my skin needs hydration. I’ve also used it as a perfume and it’s great on my hair too! I only wish this was available in a refill so that I could just keep the one bottle and keep refilling it.

Cost: $15.00 CAD, 60 ml / 2 oz
Available at: Silkka Garden Apothecary
Brand Origin: Canada
Rating: 5/5

Phyt’s, Fluide Hydratant (sample) – No review

I received a 3ml sample of this from my acupuncturist JoAnn Alafriz and while I liked the product it seems a bit pricey to me. I also didn’t like that they do not disclose what parfum consists of.

Cost: $88.00 USD, 40 g / 1.4 oz
Available at: Phyt’s Beauty and Spa, Phyt’s USA
Brand Origin: France
Rating: 3/5

Sudsatorium, Java Conditioner – Review to come

As with all Sudsatorium products I’ve tried so far, I love the smell of this stuff! Java conditioner is a lovely, hydrating conditioner. I honestly can’t decide which conditioner I love from these guys. It helps that this local company is also vegan, fair trade and helps grassroots charities. What’s not to love?

Cost: $6.95 CAD, 60 ml/ 2 oz
Available at: Sudsatorium
Brand Origin: Canada
Rating: 5/5

Sudsatorium, Bosom’s Buddy (aka The Firm) – Review to come

This is a firming lotion which was formerly called The Firm. I know it’s meant to be used for the breasts but I actually used it on my wobbly bits (arms, thighs, belly). I used it for a month and then stopped using it to see if I would feel a difference. The verdict? My skin does feel firmer with this lotion. The only teeny tiny thing I don’t like about this lotion is that the scent is very strong. It does dissipate so that’s good. Despite the strong smell I think I’ll repurchase this because I like the results it gives.

Cost: $17.95 CAD, 125 ml/ 4.2 oz
Available at: Sudsatorium, Natural Code
Brand Origin: Canada
Rating: 4/5

Flowers to Fragrance, Lavender (Grosso) Essential Oil – No review

I love shopping local and Flowers to Fragrance is a company I first discovered at the Green Living Show. Lavender is another staple in my medicine cabinet and the quality of this essential oil is great! Will definitely repurchase.

Cost: $15.99 CAD, 10 ml / 0.3 oz
Available at: Flowers to Fragrance
Brand Origin: Canada
Rating: 5/5

Meow Meow Tweet, Grapefruit Baking Soda Free Deodorant (sample) – Review to come

This stuff works! And so far it hasn’t given me a rash like the baking soda based natural deodorants have. I finished my sample from Sarah of Natural Code and have already repurchased a full sized jar.

Cost: $20.99 CAD, 68 g / 2.4 oz

Watch out Acne! Holistic Vanity is launching a new Acne Care Line

As you all know, I’m a supporter of buying local as much as possible. One of my favourite skincare brands is Holistic Vanity, produced by Pure + Simple. I’ve loved so many of their products and reviewed them on my blog (Damage Care Line, Rosacea Care Line and many more). I was super excited when Pure + Simple contacted me to try the new Holistic Vanity Acne Care Line. I’ve suffered from acne ever since I was a teenager. I was hoping when I got older and ate cleaner that the acne would disappear but it never did. Today my acne is almost non-existent but when that monthly time comes, I still get minor breakouts. The Acne Care Line will launch September 16th at all Pure + Simple locations as well as online. Finally, a skincare line that is effective in combating acne from a local Toronto brand! Here’s proof that you don’t need to put overly strong chemicals on your face (I’m looking at you Proactiv!) to get clear skin.

Acne Care line
Purifying Black Mud Cleanser

Ingredients: Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice*, Sodium Laurol Oat Amino Acids (Non-Irritating Surfactant), Decyl Glucoside (Coconut/Corn Derived Cleansing Agent), Simmondsia Chinensis Seed (Jojoba) Oil*, Coco Glucoside (Coconut Derived Cleansing Agent) Coconut Alcohol (Non Drying Emulsifier), Glycerin*, Glyceryl Stearate (Plant Derived Emulsifier, Emoliant and Moisturiser), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter*, Sucrose Polysoyate (Natural emolient), Gluconolactone (Fruit Acid) + Sodium Benzoate (Food grade Preservative), Soluble Collagen (Marine Derived), Maris Limus (Black Mud), Xanthan Gum, Lemongrass*, Ylang Ylang*, Turmeric*, Petitgrain*.   *Organic ingredients.

This creamy cleanser smells nicely of lemongrass and ylang ylang. I find this cleanser easier to spread on a damp face. You need only a couple of pumps to cover your face. The cleanser washes away cleanly and the lemongrass scent is refreshing. The scent can be a little strong until you get used to it. But once washed away it does dissipate. Black mud is a great ingredient known for its detoxifying and purifying properties. Lemongrass has natural astringent properties and is anti-microbial as well as anti-bacterial. Ylang Ylang is anti-inflammatory and helps to regulate sebum production. Aloe vera and shea butter provide gentle hydrating and moisturizing while also healing the skin. No wonder I like this cleanser so much! For those with super sensitive skin I would advise to use this cleanser sparingly at first to see how your skin reacts. Then if your skin is okay with it you can use it as directed. I used this cleanser during my “time of the month” and got only one large pimple. But that pimple is already disappearing as I continue to treat it with the Acne Care Line.

Cost: $28.00 CAD, 100 ml / 3.4 oz
Available at: Pure + Simple
Brand Origin: Canada

Anti-Bac Pine Mint Skin Tonic

Ingredients: Pinus Sylvestris (Pine)*, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint)*.   *Certified organic ingredients.

Love the super simple ingredients list for this skin tonic. Pine is useful in treating skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis and is anti-bacterial. Peppermint is anti-septic, anti-microbial and can help control oil secretion. I find this tonic a bit too strong for my skin so I like to mix it with the Healing Immortelle Tonic. Still, it’s a wonderful tonic that helps keep my skin matte and calm. It smells great too! The pine and peppermint scents are not strong at all. So this tonic should be okay for those with sensitive noses.

Cost: $26.00 CAD, 100 ml / 3.4 oz
Available at: Pure + Simple
Brand Origin: Canada
Rating: 4/5

Clarifying Black Cumin Oil

Ingredients:

Nigella Sativa (Black Cumin) Oil*, Orbignya Oleifera (Babassu) OilCertified organic ingredients.

A lovely mellow yellow oil, this one packs some powerhouse ingredients. Black cumin oil is known for nourishing the skin while reducing acne and scarring. It is anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. Read more about black cumin on the Holistic Vanity blog. Babassu oil is great for healing skin irritations, has cooling properties, and helps to rebalance the skin. I loved that this oil is absorbed into my skin quickly without leaving me feeling like a grease ball. Some oils can tend to sit on the surface of the skin but these did not.

Cost: $43.00 CAD, 100 ml / 3.4 oz
Available at: Pure + Simple
Brand Origin: Canada
Rating: 5/5

Balancing Black Mud Turmeric Lotion

Ingredients: Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice*, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed (Jojoba) Oil*, Orbignya Oleifera (Babassu) Seed Oil*, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Oleosomes and Water, Glycerin*, Cetyl Alcohol, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter*, Lonicera Japonica (Japanese Honeysuckle) Extract, Maris Limus (Black Mud), Sclerotium Gum, Tocopherol, Lemongrass*, Ylang Ylang*, Turmeric*, Petitgrain*.  *Certified organic ingredients.

This lotion is about medium thickness and a soft beige colour. Some of the amazing ingredients from the cleanser are also present in this lotion. I can definitely smell the lemongrass in this lotion as well as the black mud. I didn’t mind it though, as once my skin absorbed the lotion the scent goes away. I also loved this lotion. It kept my skin matte and yet velvety feeling. My skin has been feeling smoother with all of the products in the Acne Care Line so I really can’t complain.

Cost: $50.00 CAD, 100 ml / 3.4 oz
Available at: Pure + Simple
Brand Origin: Canada
Rating: 5/5

Overall review:

I predict the Holistic Vanity Acne Care Line will be really popular. So many people suffer from acne and this skin care line will help many people. It’s certainly helped me control my acne breakouts. I’ve noticed that my skin is clearer, smoother and less pimple prone. An intro kit is available for those wishing to try before buying the larger sizes.  Keep in mind though, that you also have to eat cleaner to have better skin. No amount of amazing skin care products will help your skin if you are eating mostly processed foods, lots of animal proteins and GMOs.

Holistic Vanity, Rosacea Care, Healing Immortelle Tonic – Review

This tonic is my HG toner. When my skin is irritated and inflamed this toner helps to calm everything down. I always make sure to have this tonic in my cabinet. I never want to run out as it works for my skin so well! I’ve repurchased this tonic many times and will continue to do so.

Acure Organics, Moroccan Argan Oil+ Argan Stem Cell ConditionerReview

This conditioner didn’t perform as well for me as I would have liked. When I used this conditioner, my hair felt flat after I dried it. I won’t be repurchasing.

Available at: Glam Goes Greeniherb

John Masters Organics, Lavender and Avocado Intensive Conditioner (sample) – Review to come

This 10 ml sample size was only a single use for my hair type. I’ve got very thirsty hair. I liked the way my hair felt after using the sample so when I finish my current conditioner I’m going to buy the full size to see how long term use affects my hair.

Cost: $34.00 CAD, 207 ml / 7 oz
Available at: John Masters, Clementine Fields, Fresh Faced
Brand Origin: USA
Rating: 4/5

John Masters Organics, Rose & Apricot Hair Milk (sample) – Review to come

Another 10 ml sample size. This one I mixed with my DIY leave-in conditioner and it was great for helping to keep my hair frizz free. It gave my leave-in a light hold that I liked. I don’t like the smell too much as I’m not much a fan of rose scents. But I’ve bought the full size so that I can continue to mix it with my leave-in.

Cost: $40.25 CAD, 118 ml / 4 oz
Available at: John Masters, Thair, Ambrosia Natural Foods, Fresh Faced
Brand Origin: USA
Rating: 4/5

John Masters Organics, Honey & Hibiscus Hair Reconstructor (sample) – Review to come

I really liked this 10 ml sample size of this product. The hair reconstructor was thick enough to provide some intensive moisture for my thirsty hair. I’ve also bought the full size of this to test out for a longer period of time. This product smells great. I really love the honey and hibiscus smell.

Cost: $39.00 CAD, 118 ml / 4 oz
Available at: John Masters, Ambrosia Natural Foods, Clementine Fields, Fresh Faced

Lavina, Barbary Fig Seed OilReview

Lavina’s Barbary Fig Seed Oil remains one of my favourite oils and companies as well. Barbary Fig Seed Oil is packed with lots of properties that are beneficial to the skin: its high amounts of linoleic acid (an omega 6 fatty acid), Vitamin E, and anti-inflammatories such as betalain and zinc. I also love Lavina’s Jojoba Oil and Argan Oil. I use Lavina’s Argan Oil in my DIY leave-in conditioner. I have repurchased this oil many times and will continue to do so.

Cost: $30.00 CAD, 10 ml / 0.33 fl oz
Available at: Lavina
Brand Origin: Canada
Rating: 5/5

Egyptian Magic, All Purpose Skin Cream – No Review

I received this jar of cream in the Think Dirty Clean Beauty Box. There’s no doubt, it’s a great all around skin cream with very simple ingredients. The price point is reasonable as well. However, I can get a large jar of organic shea butter from New Directions Aromatics that costs less in the long run and gives me the same results. I won’t be repurchasing this product.

Cost: $38.52 CAD, 118 ml / 4 oz
Available at: Think Dirty app, Amazon.ca, Egyptian Magic, Other stockists
Brand Origin: USA
Rating: 4/5

Sudsatorium, Naughty Face and Body SoapReview

I have to admit, I love Sudsatorium’s Naughty soap. I’ve tried some of Sudsatorium’s products and so far they keep hitting out of the park! I guess that means I’m an addict. Naughty is soap containing Bamboo Charcoal, Licorice Root Decoction, Sandalwood, Rosewood, Rapeseed Oil, Coconut Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, and Sea Salt. It left my skin soft and kept my skin clear. Sometimes I get body acne and Naughty kept me from breaking out. I’ll have to repurchase this after I finish the other soaps I’ve bought from Sudsatorium!

Cost: $ 3.95 CAD, 50 g / 1.8 oz
Available at: Etsy, Detox Market

Odylique Purifying Facial Wash, Balancing Tonic and Superfruit Concentrate

Odylique is an organic and free-trade UK brand founded by Margaret Weeds that recently launched their US website. I was contacted by Odylique to test out some of their products and I gladly agreed. I’ve wanted to try their products for some time but the shipping and duty costs can be quite exorbitant to and from the UK. It’s great that I can now order from the USA site if I wish.

Lemon and Tea Tree Purifying Wash

Ingredients: Aqua, Coco glucoside, Olea europaea fruit oil*, Sodium olivate*, Glycerine**, Aloe barbadensis leaf juice powder*, Citrus limon peel oil*, Cymbopogon citratus leaf oil*, Melaleuca alternifolia leaf oil*, Lactic acid, Levulinic acid, P-anisic acid, Sodium levulinate, Xanthan gum, citral* and limonene* (in the essential oils) *Organically grown and produced ** Organic origin (total 70%)

Plain English: Aloe vera juice*, Gentle cleanser from coconut & corn glucose, Extra virgin olive oil*, Saponified extra virgin olive oil*, Non-palm plant glycerine**, Essential oils of Lemon*, Lemongrass* and Tea Tree*, Plant origin stabilisers

I love the fresh smell of this facial wash. You can really smell the tea tree, lemon and lemon grass. I would consider the scent mild for those that are scent sensitive. Once you wash this off your face the scent doesn’t linger. Also, despite the coconut derived glucose it didn’t break out my sensitive and acne prone skin. It lathers up easily with just a dime sized amount in my palm on a damp face. Washing this off my face my skin feels matte and clean. I noticed that as I used this cleanser the frequency of my breakouts decreased.

Cost: Full size, $35.00 USD, 200 ml / 6.8 oz (travel size: $14.00 USD, 30 ml / 1.7 oz)
Available at: Odylique UK, Odylique USA
Brand Origin: United Kingdom
Rating: 5/5

Balancing Citrus Super Tonic

Ingredients: Rosa centifolia flower water*, Alcohol*, Calendula officinalis flower extract*, Cananga odorata flower oil*, Citrus aurantium bergamia peel oil*, Citrus limon peel oil*, Citrus sinensis peel oil*, limonene* (in the citrus essential oils). *Organically grown & produced (100% of product)

Plain English: Rose flower water*, Sugar-cane alcohol* (Food grade and fermented from organic sugar cane, this alcohol forms part of the botanical extraction of the biodynamic herbs. Please note that we do not add any alcohol to the product – there is a very small amount of organic alcohol residue contained in one of the ingredients; a biodynamic herbal tincture. By law this must be listed on the product label.) Calendula flower extract*, Essential oils of Bergamot* (bergaptene-free), Lemon*, Sweet orange*, and Ylang ylang*

I have to say that I’m loving the smell of Odylique’s products. I notice that this tonic also contains some citrus essential oils. Since I’m a fan of citrus smells I love this product as well. The alcohol makes this tonic a bit too drying for my skin despite the rose flower water and calendula flower extract. So I use this sparingly and it helps to balance and mattify my skin. Note that this tonic is for those with normal, oily, mature skin. Those with dry skin would want to try the Calming Rose Super Tonic.

Cost: $29.00 USD, 50 ml / 1.69 oz
Available at: Odylique UK, Odylique USA
Brand Origin: United Kingdom
Rating: 4/5

Organic Superfruit Concentrate

Ingredients: Persea gratissima fruit oil*, Simmondsia chinensis seed oil*, Rosa canina fruit extract*, Punica granatum seed extract*, Hippophae rhamnoides fruit extract*, Rosmarinus officinalis extract* Organically grown/produced (100% of product) Plain English: Cold-pressed avocado oil, Jojoba oil*, Concentrated extracts of Pomegranate*, Rosehip*, Rosemary* and Sea buckthorn fruit*

Plain English: Cold-pressed avocado oil*, Jojoba oil*, Concentrated extracts of Pomegranate*, Rosehip*, Rosemary* and Sea buckthorn fruit*

There are some lovely ingredients in this superfruit concentrate. This concentrate is orange in colour. But don’t worry, the colour disappears when you work it into your skin. In texture it feels like a middle weight oil. The smell of the oil is slightly nutty due to the avocado and jojoba oil. The astringency of the rosemary comes through as well. I found the avocado oil a bit heavy for my skin type. If I use this daily I would actually break out. So I like to use this as skin treatment once a week. When my skin is really dry this concentrate helps to rehydrate my skin beautifully.

Cost: $60.00 USD, 30 ml / 1.7 oz
Available at: Odylique UK, Odylique USA
Brand Origin: United Kingdom
Rating: 4/5

Product Review: Silkka Garden Apothecary Blossom Hydration Mist and Grapefruit + Mint Cleansing Balm

Source

Blossom Hydration Mist

Ingredients: Michelia champaca (Magnolia) floral water, Anthemis nobilis (Chamomile) floral water, Aloe barbadensis (Aloe) leaf juice and Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate.

This mist smells like a beautiful floral paradise. That makes sense once you look at the ingredients! Magnolia and chamomile floral waters make up the bulk of the ingredients. Aloe vera and chamomile assist with hydration as well as having soothing, cooling properties. I haven’t seen Magnolia used often in eco beauty but it does have an “ability to relax and rejuvenate the spirit.” The timing couldn’t be better for me to receive these products from the lovely and sweet Liisa Allen, founder and creator of Silkka Garden Apothecary’s products. It’s winter time and my skin has badly needed hydration this season. I’m usually one of those shiny, oily gals but this winter my skin really dried out, and started flaking and peeling. Not pretty! Thankfully the Blossom Hydration Mist and the Grapefruit + Mint Cleansing Balm did a one two punch on my dryness and knocked them out. The way I like to use this mist is to spray it on my face before putting on my primer and makeup for the day. It works so well at keeping my skin from getting too dried out. If I feel I need an extra boost of moisture throughout the day I bring out a tiny spray bottle I’ve transferred it into and spritz myself at work. I also spray it on my hair when I want to smell really pretty. Besides keeping my skin wonderfully hydrated, on days when I was fighting an allergic skin reaction it also helped calm my skin down. What can I say? This mist is pretty awesome. I would definitely repurchase this.

Grapefruit + Mint Cleansing Balm

Ingredients: Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) seed oil, Camellia sinensis (seed) oil, Butyrospermum parkii (Shea butter), Mango (Mangifera indica) butter, non-GMO Glycine (soy butter) soja, Cera alba (beeswax) and essential oils of Citrus paradisi (Grapefruit) and Mentha arvensis (Peppermint).

I haven’t had good experiences in the past with cleansing balms, so I wasn’t sure how my skin would react to this one. But I’m happy to report that my skin loved it! I also tested this balm on my body and it’s an overall great product to use. The balm is slightly grainy when you first take it out of the pot but melts easily onto the skin when warmed up by your body heat. It feels velvety and luxurious going on as a moisturizer. Plus it smells nice! The smell is lovely and subtle. I love multi-use products, especially when they are of good quality like this one. Not only do multi-use products save shelf space but also time and money. You don’t have to go out and buy two or three different things when this little baby can do it all. It worked really well for me as a cleanser, a body balm, and a moisturizing treatment mask. Without Silkka Garden Apothecary’s mist and this balm I would’ve had alligator skin this whole winter. I’m going to repurchase this as soon as I run out of it!

Cost: $ 17.00 CAD, 50 ml / 1.6 oz
Available at: Silkka Garden Apothecary
Rating: 5/5

My thanks to Liisa Allen of Silkka Garden Apothecary for the beautiful products. Stay tuned tomorrow for my interview with Liisa Allen!

Toners for every budget level

Hi all, one of the most common complaints I hear about going eco-friendly is that it can be expensive. Not always! But you do have to know what you’re looking for sometimes.

I’m of the mindset where if it works amazing for my skin I’m willing to spend a bit more. But I also pick and choose where I’m willing to spend more. Not all of the products I use are high end. Here we have some of my favourite toners that I’ve tested. These toners are suitable for sensitive, acne prone skin which is the skin type I have. The most expensive toner isn’t that crazy expensive. Then again most toners aren’t that pricey.
